$1000 will go a long way in Las Vegas. I disagree with the last post that booking flight and hotel separately will save you money. A lot of times Expedia and the other travel sites have seriously discounted hotel rooms if booked with a flight. In December I was able to fly cross-country and stay at a decent hotel (Harrah's) for three nights for just $400. That isn't always the case though; you just have to look for the deals (package or otherwise). Travelzoo.com is a good site for this. As for food, I would recommend one night at a nice steakhouse: Lawry's has some of the best prime rib you will ever have (just off the Strip). Gallagher's at New York New York is also nice. Otherwise, you can enjoy the cheap buffets and prime rib specials most frequently found Downtown or at the 2nd tier casinos. Every casino has a coffee shop too, often 24 hours where you can grab a quick bite to eat for a decent price. You shouldn't pay too much for drinks as they are almost all free at the casinos so long as you are playing. A dollar tip for the waitress each time will make sure she returns. I would recommend against getting a rental car; get a roundtrip shuttle from the airport and you can walk everywhere on the Strip. There is also a bus that runs to Downtown for a reasonable fee (The Deuce). I visit Vegas once a year and have done it on the cheap and have also done it up in style; I have had fun both ways and whatever your budget you are sure to have a good time with so many different options. Happy birthday!

Be sure to check out the wine angels at Mandalay Bay hotel. There is bar that has a wine tower that is four stories high and these girls wear a harness and go up to get the bottles of wine. The bar is just beautiful you will enjoy it. Coyote ugly is over rated so I would not bother. If the weather is nice be sure to spend a day at the Hard Rock. They have a great pool that is like a beach with swim up bars and such. It is a nice way to swim and relax by the pool. Hope you have fun and this info is a help.

The best way to save a LOT of money is to avoid special events, large conventions and weekends. By going Sunday through Thursday during slow periods you can stay in a great hotel for very little $$.

I always book my hotel and air separate, I always book my room through the hotel. I do use the travel web sites to compare rates.

These are the sites I use to compare rates

http://www.travelworm.com

http://www.i4vegas.com

http://www.tripres.com

From this site you can access every hotel/casino in LV - It's also a great source of up to date info on everything LV.

These are "Generally" the best value hotels.

Four Star

Luxor

A couple other very nice places that have great rates "sometimes"

If your trip is more than 2 months in the future, take the time to sign up for "e-mail updates" from any hotel you're interested in. They will send you e-mail promotions with special room rates.

If you have an Q's feel free to e-mail me through YA, I'll be glad to help you find what you're looking for. No, I'm not a travel agent!!

I was checking room rates for someone the other day and ran across a special on Travel Worm, for the Orleans, the rate for Sunday through Thursday >5 nights, July 15th - 20th< averaged $28.80 per night. This is a great rate at a very-very nice hotel. You might at least check travel worm to see if they have that rate for the dates you're interested in. >The Orleans will price match the best online rate you can find for their hotel 1-800-675-3267.

Later: "Duke" "I disagree with the above post that you can save money by booking your air and hotel separately. I flew cross country and spent 3 nights at Harrah's for $400" > We also went to Las Vegas in December(5th - 19th) we did book our air and hotel separately and the TOTAL cost for RT non-stop air from KC and 14 nights hotel was $232 each> I say again, if you are willing to do the research and plan ahead you can save a lot of money. >We are also booked for next December, 16th - Jan 1 - Total room cost for 16 nights including taxes $252.88, rooms held since January 24th 07<

"Duke" did give you a lot of good advice, though I disagree on the shuttle from McCarran to your hotel plan. The city bus is quicker and cheaper and they don't keep your money and not show up for the return trip. >Which happened to us both times we used the shuttle<

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. We have 45 nights booked for LV this year(it's early yet)
